He uses charcoal and a range of colours to depict polo players and racing horses in a unique style. These works, many of which are among the largest and most iconic in his oeuvre, demonstrate the influence of symbolism and portraiture on the artist as he began to develop his own distinctive ,brisk and expressionist language.Narayan’s signature is his love for darker palettes. Often depicting figures in dreamlike spaces and sometimes nocturnal coastal landscapes,Narayan’s compositions convey a sense of moody stillness and embody an affect influenced by the artist’s life in the cities of Pune as well as native Karnataka which is known for its long natural promenades and mysterious atmospherics in weather patterns.His love for simple Hindu rituals and the power of faith all come together to create a corollary of conversations that uphold simple living and high thinking.
